On view from Nov. 7, 2013 - Dec. 21, 2013 at Laurence Miller Gallery in New York: Larry Burrows (1926-1971): A Tribute
In the 1960’s Larry Burrows became the preeminent photographer documenting the Vietnam War. His iconic images of the humanity and inhumanity that the war fostered haunt us to this day.
LARRY BURROWS: A TRIBUTE features several works highlighting his career: Louis Armstrong practicing aboard a plane flying from Nigeria to the Gold Coast in 1956; a 1958 scene of bankers in London’s City (above); and his classic “Reaching Out” taken at Mutter Ridge, Nui Cay Tri, Vietnam, 1966 (top). This is accompanied by an installation of 35 vintage prints from the LIFE archive that have never been exhibited before, including several in which the back side of the print is shown, revealing the picture editor’s notes on the essential who, what, when and where.
Opening reception is on Nov. 7, 2013 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
